Chapters of Leadership - Strengthening
Key Indicators - Part I
What Are You Designing?
You Are Designing Right Now
There is something instinctively telling us who we become and where we are is not accidental. However, we often quickly blame others for our lack in a variety of different arenas. Why is this? I can look back on many wasted years where I was ungrateful, upset and unhappy with where I was in my life – deep down I believed I should be doing “more”. If I’m honest the central figures for the cause of this resentment was others. Early on in my leadership journey, the story or lack thereof, typically focused on the opportunities someone was not giving me.
What I failed to realize early on is that I had designed the results I was experiencing. You may or may not see it, but you are designing right now. The decisions you make, the vision you allow to capture your attention and the direction you set your efforts towards are all designing your results. This reality is why it is vital for each of us to understand our natural gifts and skills, so that we are designing towards those areas we will see the most impact for our time spent.

Deeper Roots
If you take a hard look at your life and where you are right now, do you believe it is simply an aggregate of a long series of events?
When you read and think about the word lack, is it something that conjures an emotional response in you?
Do you work and focus everything in your life to ensure you don’t have any?
Is it something you feel constantly reminded of each day you wake up?
Are you someone who can quickly turn and look at others as the focal point of your sense of lack?
Have you or are you currently wrestling with the idea of “should be doing more”?
Take some time to share with a trusted person in your life what comes to your heart and mind when you think about the above statement.
