Chapters of Leadership - Strengthening

Purpose - Part II

Depth Isn’t Optional

In the chapter of strengthening our roots have now begun to stretch deeper and wider. It is critical to our story to answer whether we believe depth and width can be realized simultaneously. More important than this, we must answer whether or not we believe influence can exist without being a deeply rooted person? If you are anything like me, you have been in cultures where the organizational answer is clear by the individuals who are celebrated. But being a well | rooted leader means you are in pursuit of a unique leadership impact where your widening influence is because of your depth.

Stay Rooted ~

Deeper Roots

  1. What does it look like for you to know and understand when and how your roots are deepening and widening?

    • When thinking about your natural gifts and skills what does this mean for you?

  2. Do you have any experiences where you were implicitly or explicitly led in a way that you had to choose between depth and width of your influence and/or development?

  3. Spend some meaningful time with a colleague, friend or mentor discussing your actual beliefs around whether or not you can be a deep leader who has a wide influence.

    • Do you have any examples of leaders in your current and/or past that modeled your belief around this?

    • What makes it easy and/or challenging for you to know where you stand on this?

  4. What types of people and/or leaders are celebrated in your current ecosystem?

    • When you look at what is rewarded in your organization, what type of people are being celebrated and/or acknowledged?

    • Even further - based on your answer - what specific behaviors and/or characteristics are most prevalent in the people being highlighted?
